Happy Birthday to us, Happy Birthday to us!
13 December 2018
The Belfast Adoption Centre celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2018 with a special, invitation only, celebratory evening held at the centre on 26 October.
The evening reception was held for key dignitaries including the Mayor for Ards and North Down Borough, Cats Protection's Director of Operations Mark Beazley, current and past staff, volunteers and supporters of the centre to celebrate a quarter of a century of helping cats in Belfast and across the whole of Northern Ireland.
Mayor of Ards and Down Borough Richard Smart commented: “Cats Protection Belfast Adoption Centre has carried out great work during its 25 years. Animal welfare is an issue people feel passionately about. Thanks to groups such as Cats Protection, the lives of so many of our four-legged friends have undoubtedly been made better over the past 25 years.”
Attendees of the celebrations were treated to a sparkling drinks reception, finger buffet and live music; all under the watchful eyes of the centre’s current 100+ feline residents! A fantastic evening was had by all and the cherry on top was added by the staff of local print firm Kaizen Print who kindly presented a cheque for £1000 from their recent fundraising endeavours for the centre.
Centre Manager Bel Livingstone said the event was a great opportunity to celebrate the centre’s achievements, whilst highlighting how it will continue to help cats well into the future.
Bel went on to say: “Since we opened our doors in 1993, we’ve helped nearly 24,000 cats and that’s only been possible thanks to the support of local people and the dedicated volunteers and staff who have worked with us.
“We asked on our Facebook page for photos of cats which have been rehomed from us over the years, and we were bowled over by the response. It was so lovely seeing all those familiar feline faces from the past 25 years, and a great reminder of how important rescue cats are in the lives of their owners.
“The evening was a great success, and a really lovely way to celebrate such a landmark anniversary. It was also an opportunity to thank two of the centre’s longest-serving staff – cat care assistant Jill Miller and receptionist Muriel Llewellyn – who have each clocked up nearly 20 years’ service.”
Bel added: “It was a truly amazing evening and made more so by the kind words and best wishes from all who attended."
“As well as the centre, Cats Protection also has branches across Northern Ireland which are run entirely by our amazing volunteers. It’s thanks to their dedication and commitment that we’ve been able to help so many cats in Northern Ireland over the years.”
